Best system I've ever seen (at least from my point of view) was years ago at a bank I can't even recall You got to choose your own PIN. Except rather than choose 4 digits, you chose a 4 letter word (I would assume the really good ones were already taken )
I choose a number which is meaningful to me, then convert it from base 10 to a different base (for security reasons, I won't say which one!). If it's greater than base 10, I use 1 for 11, 2 for 12, etc.

Sure, you have to be a geek to find this method easy; but since I'm a geek....
    Seshat's self-help guide:
    1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
    2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
    3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
    4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

I dont bother with using a number for my PIN, instead I use a specific patterns on the keypad. I always found that easier to remember. For instance 1, 4, 7, 8 (L shape).
The beatings will continue until morale improves...
