I only work part time at supermarket deli. Due to my husbands busy work schedule I am limited to when I can work. We have two children and no family locally to watch them for us. It isn't worth the cost for daycare or babysitters when I only work 15 to 24 hours a week. Ok background done.
At the beginning of the school year this year I gave my manager a list of all the school holidays and stated that I could not work any of those days. The schedule went up today for next week. And I am scheduled for Saturday, Tues., Wed., Thur. and Friday. At first I was happy to have the extra shifts because my kids birthdays are coming up. After I got home I checked my e-mail and one of my kids teachers sent a reminder that there is no school next Friday. I double checked the printout I had of days off and sure enough that was on it. So when the kids got home I took them to the store (I needed to shop anyways). I went to talk to my boss. She informed me; "Too bad. She couldn't keep re-arranging the schedule to suit me. We are short staffed." I am always willing to work extra when needed and if available. I am not going to leave my 8 & 9 yr old girls home alone for 7 hours. Not only is it illegal it goes against everything I believe in as a parent.
It sucks I liked having the extra money. The odds of finding another part time job that will take me with my limited schedule is slim to none.
Sockpuppet
PS. One question. In my resignation letter I listed the reason including her ignoring my availability. Should I CC the store manager?
