I was about 10 feet from Ollie North when I was on vacation some years ago. He was in Cape May to give some speech at Congress Hall...and my dad and I happened to be there.

Former mayor of my city. He did the "do you work here?" thing even though he's been in the store before and seen me there.

I knew there was a reason I wasn't too fond of him.

I saw Rep. Paul Ryan in January 2011 on Capital Hill. He was so beautiful. I wanted to get his autograph and a picture but I was too shy.

Used to sell icecream to Ross Perot, if he counts. Small vanilla cone, every time.

I'm forever retelling the story of the time one of Dennis Kucinich's staffers had her period in the bed at the hotel where I worked, and how I had to clean it up.

In other tangential connections to political figures, I live in a city where the current President of the US has visited and vacationed a few times. On one of those visits, the Secret Service spoke to the staff at the church I attend because the President is a member of the same denomination and there was a chance he might decide to attend services. On another visit, because I live next door to a restaurant favored by the President, a mob gathered in my driveway in hopes of catching a glimpse of the President when he came by to grab lunch.

I shook hands with Michael Ignatieff, former leader of the federal Liberal Party of Canada, and I had a photo taken of me with Olivia Chow, wife of the late NDP leader Jack Layton (may he rest in peace), then-candidate for the 2014 Toronto mayoral election and now Member of Parliament (again) of the federal New Democrat Party.

Still waiting to meet up with a member of the Conservative, Bloc Québecois and Green Parties, though.

Doc Hastings used to live down the street from me when I was a kid. He was nice. He's a Senator or Congressman or something from Washington state.

In a prior law enforcement job, I was on a protective detail to escort Senator Rand Paul when he visited my jurisdiction.

He wasn't very nice, he didn't say a word to any of us, or even acknowledge us or even really look at us, very dismissive and aloof.

When hubs and I were flying to DC to take care of MIL last year, we were on the same flight as one of our Senators. He was flying coach and was very friendly.

Hubs has met Pres Reagen and Bush.

I am a member of the Japan Rail Modelers of DC.* We have a Japanese themed model train layout we display at various train shows. At one show we got to meet the Japanese ambassador.

                      * If you try to pick me out in the pictures, I'm the good looking one.

Being from KY I got to see Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a few times. As well as then Senator (and baseball HOF AND perfect game thrower) Jim Bunning. Also when I used to work at Kroger I got to see the "voice of the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers" Joel Utley many times (he's being doing that since 1962 BTW). Oh yeah when I was at UK (University of KY, not United Kingdom) I got to meet then coach Tubby Smith a few times
