    Error

Lady comes up to the desk. She had 4 rooms, 3 of which she had reserved before hand, and one that she had to get because the rooms weren't big enough to accommodate everyone in just 3.

My only interaction with her occurred at check out. After she had all the receipts for all the rooms, she asked if the total was $XXX.XX for all three original rooms. She presents a printout, from our website, that is basically a rate quote, not a booking confirmation. On that, written by her, was the total she had just given me, along with a confirmation number (also written by her). She claimed that this was what she was quoted for a total.

Now, sometimes, when the rooms are booked at a lower rate than the rate code is set at, and then changes are made to the reservation, the rate self adjusts to the "correct" rate. So I check the history, to see what the room was originally booked at, and find that it is the exact same rate, which is also the rate she signed for when she checked in. The total of which is not what she was "quoted".

Given the circumstances, there was nothing I could do, especially since the Manager would literally be there in a couple of minutes. I informed her of this, and she asked for his name, and promptly left.

Less than a minute later, I was already describing the situation for my manager.

    Foul Ball

A woman came up to the desk, at ~9AM. She looked like she had seen FAR too much of a tanning bed. She also had quite a bit of makeup (especially eye liner) and she was wearing a very short, bright orange, sundress, and appeared to be either very tired, or high.

Then she asked if we sold cigarettes.

    Two questions:

Are there any hotels within the last half century or so, that sell cigarettes?
Did I just meet my first hooker?

To answer your questions: Yes and probably.

A hotel that was located near me, which has since been converted into a long-term care facility (for Alzheimer's sufferers I think) had a few cigarette vending machines. Of course this was the pre Irish smoking ban days and there was a bar attached, so only a technical yes on the first one, but still a yes

As for the "customer" herself, just based on the description, I'd say it was more than likely, except that look seems to be becoming something of a popular trend these days...

Just because I'm normally a lurker and talking to my monitor, I'd figure I'd type it since I am logged in today...

Yes, overseas hotels tend to have common amenities and vices on hand. Depending on the country determines the inventory, but in Japan some hotels did have cigarettes at the counter.

Not that I think she was a frequent world-traveler, but it does exist. In fact the visual I have is of Maxine from the comics asking for smokes.

Also in Vegas they still have cigarette girls that walk the casino floor. I'm always surprised when I see them.
