The professor is completely wrong. If that were true then content that is hosted by a Unix system would not be consumable by Windows based machines...which is false. I would talk with an IT staff member at your school to get that straightened out. Is the professor sure that a user account was created for you?

She said there was but I am highly starting to doubt this.

Our big IT person who can fix almost everything is out due to pregnancy problems so...guess I get to wait. Cause none of the student IT's I keep getting on the phone want to take the time to handle this or...can't handle it at all.

It sounding like Professor Dumb has killed any rapport with the IT spods by issuing wild goose chases for incorrectly identified problems.
