This woman who was pushed by her daughters in one of those walker/chair things came into my window today. They were all really sweet but...

OL: Old lady
AH: Annoying host (a casino host who is paid to do nothing but kiss ass)

OL: I'd like to set up a credit line.

Me: okay, I'll need your players card, your check-

OL: I don't have a check.

ME: Unfortunately without a check we can't do anything.

Enter Host.

Side note: I completely hate this woman. She is really annoying and tries to make you look stupid.

AH: She wants to set up a credit line.

me: Yes but she needs a check in order to do so.

OL: I have a credit card.

Me: *sigh* We need the actual check to scan in...

AH: Can't you guys just let her write a check?

Me: If she had a check...

AH: Does she really need to do an application?

Me: Yes.

I don't care if she came here everyday and lived in our hotel, she is no different. And she did word it like that too.

AH: You can't just write checks for people anymore?

We have to do the applications, it checks their credit and does a bank rating. We have over 100,000 in returns.

AH: Well, give me the app, we can get that started.

Me: Uhh okay.

I hand over the application but its worthless without a check.

AH: Can't she just fax a voided check in?

Ah to OL: I'm really sorry, someone gave me the wrong information...

I KNOW she knows better. I don't know why she thought she could cheat the system just because she wanted commission from this woman. I was seething.

WHY in the hell would you want to write a check and NOT have the check!?

I thought about sicking the supervisor on her but I was proud of myself for handling it. I'm surprised she didn't ask me for one. It was just annoying.

I literally hate people that are out to make you look stupid. I've had my share of customers who would call in, ask a question, then contradict your answer in the hope that you've misspoken. In this case, it sounds like AH is probably used to having the upper hand on OL, which is a shame. There are many people like AH who look at the elderly as weak, stupid, and incompetent. You would just love to give AH this treatment when she becomes OL's age.

One of my managers does this to me a lot. I'll be going by the book, because I figure, better safe than sorry... then he comes in and is like "no we can totally do what you want us to" to the customer even though I just said I couldn't. I hate it when he does that!

That's pretty much all managers from what I can tell. They make you follow procedure, but have no qualms with breaking it and undermining you right in front of the customer.

Funny thing is AH is below me. I have more say than she does because I know my policies and rules. She likes to think she can boss me around. Makes me laugh a little when customers are pissed that we can't do anything for them and they threaten to get their hosts. Hosts have NO say.

I worked for a manager who did this with her upper manager. It was a constant battle with the two of them. She was so good at shooting down suggestions to problems and making her own people look stupid, she seemed to enjoy trying to do it to her own boss! It was a good thing they worked 300 miles apart from each other, or I'm sure her boss would have decked her there!
