Last year it took 4 months to be referred to a specialist.
First 2 months were taken up by
1) Notify insurance I need to see specialist
2) wait for letter telling me who they will let me see
This process took about a month each time.
*2x* the referred me to the same office. First by practice name, second by doctor's name. The doctor DIED in DECEMBER, so they weren't taking new patients. In fact the first time I called them they told me they were closing their doors in a month.
3rd time they referred me to a doctor that ONLY SEES INPATIENT PATIENTS!
So when referral #4 came up someone living and taking outpatients I didn't mind the 2 hour bus ride.
Today I get in the mail a letter from my doctor saying as of next month he will no longer accept my insurance.
