  • What exactly can Hon'ya-chan not do for you today??

As of late, i'm getting sick and tired of answering questions that require folks to either:
    • Contact Corporate.
    • Contact the publisher.
    • Contact the magazine.
    • Contact the group.
    • Contact the show.
    • Website.

I don't control the inventory, I don't control the content in books, we don't stock past issues of magazines, the address to that group is on the back of the book, call the radio station numbnuts, and GOOGLE MOTHER-PARKER, DO YOU USE IT?!?!?!

The kicker complaint has to be the parent who found out about Negima #16 and demanded to have the company ban it's sale in the stores. When I began to write down both Corporates Addy and the publishers info and informed her that i'm the wrong person to complain too, she balked and demanded that I do something. I gave her the paper and told her "Start writing and calling."

Uh, oh. What was wrong with Negima 16? Too adult? Not adult enough? It was unwrapped on the shelf? It was wrapped on the shelf? Over-use of the letter G?
    "I call murder on that!"

That's when you reply, "We're not going to carry it. Until November..."

Oh for god's sake, Negima #15 was shrink wrapped and I had to show ID that I was over 18 to purchase it - note, I look well over 18. I'm nearly twice that age.

I shudder to think what hoops I'm going to have to go through to get #16.

For the record, there are many other titles that are worse than Negima. The latest volume of Moonphase comes to mind. Or Sorcerer Hunters.

She can start writing and calling all she wants, but the fact is, she's one person in a sea of millions who will drown her out in a second.

Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
          DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I don't really read Negi, but I'm pretty sure it's not hentai. Just flashes a lot of junk for weak reasons...

That said, porn does exist. And it is legal. And people over the age of 18 have the full right to do whatever they want with it.

So, no, we're not going to stop selling this book 'cuz it has boobs and panties on the cover. (I have boobs and panties, too. I see them everyday. It's not really that special.)

... or maybe it was the magic. But I'd think that would have her griping about the whole series, not just #16...

Tried that, but she still insisted that I don't carry it. And obviously writing to my superiors is a "waste of time."

Then don't carry it. You can haul it, tow it, schlep it, or ask someone else to carry it though.

What, is there some Mrs. Grundy newsletter that tells them to PRE-protest stuff? What a complete waste of do-gooding time. She should volunteer at a soup kitchen, or be a foster parent, or.......

In any case, I feel ya. Once had a customer raise a HUGE howl over a Car & Driver or Maxim or whatever with a bikini gal on the front. I don't publish, distribute, authorize, condone, condemn or ANY thing concerning the selection in the store. Here's the distributor's name and number, and the owner's name and number. Anything else today ma'am?

Weak reasons = fanservice Giada DeLaurentis on Food Channel springs to mind for some reason.

I am doing something...I'm giving you the contact info for the people who have the power to do what you want (not that they will...)

We had a kid who used to come in on occasion (maybe late teens/early 20s, but seemed a tad "slow"); he liked to look at car magazines but was constantly complaining to whoever would listen (read: whoever he could trap at the info desk) about the ones with the "girls" on/in them (Easy Rider comes to mind)...they're porn, they shouldn't be where kids can get them, they should be behind the counter, they should be wrapped in plastic, blah blah blah. We told him numerous times that we don't control the magazines we carry (corporate decides that), or where they're shelved (corporate controls that, too); the "naughty bits" are covered (however scantily), there's nothing we can do, you can call corporate and complain if you want.... My awesome manager finally told him flat out, if you don't like it, don't read it, but stop harassing the employees about it because we can't do anything.

Because the customer couldn't physically see someone trying to ignore them. It's always satisfying to see your complaint registered.

You are correct - Negima is not hentai. It's a harem manga series. With lots of fan service. Which is probably why it's rated 16+ and the volumes have been shrinkwrapped, though when hubby and I have gotten it, it's been opened. Except for the last volume we bought.

Yeah, Negima is by Ken "Pointless Panty Shot" Akamatsu, but it's certainly not porn. You can see far more skin and female objectification watching 8 seconds of MTV at any time of day.

Do you think she was working the pr0n angle or the OMIGAWD! WITCHCRAFT@!$ angle?
