  • When the waste product starts hitting the air circulation device ...

Confirmed reports that THREE people QUIT today.

Two have handed in their two-week notices and the third ... simply walked out, an hour after he'd started his shift.

We might also be losing a head cashier.

Correction: we are losing a head cashier.

    As well as two loaders.

And a partriiiidge in a pearrr treeee ...

    The avalanche begins.

So the rats are building their lifeboats?

Sarcasm dear, sarcasm. I’m well aware that dealing with civilians in any capacity will skin your faith in humanity alive, then pickle anything that remains so as to watch it shrivel up into an immortal husk thus reminding you of how dead inside you now are.

I know there's a second head cashier poised to leave ... she's just waiting for some paperwork or something like that to go through the system and then I suspect she'll be gone too.

OK, so why are you still there? Any chance that the early ones would be willing to put in a good word for you?
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

I'm still here because I haven't been seriously looking for another job up until now. That just changed.

I finished a two-day job-search program at the local employment centre and have a nice shiny new resume, as well as advice on how to build other resumes focusing on other types of jobs (I've always had two or three resumes going at once: office work, retail, etc.)

              So that was earlier today.

The scheduler had had to make drastic changes in shifts because Head Office suddenly decided the greenhouse area HAD to be open for the same hours as the store itself. So I had three 6 a.m. start-ups in a row.

Two coworkers offered to change. One was having trouble switching shifts because (ironically) he had put in his availability as starting at noon, so the system literally wouldn't allow the scheduler to give him my 6 a.m. start time (even though he really really wanted it for this one day). He said he would try to change his availability.

I didn't hear from him all day today (I'd given him my email address) so I called the store to find out what was going on. Ultimately, it turns out, he can't change his shift.

The other two shifts changed easily.

              But.

Scheduler looks at Sunday, when I'm now scheduled for 4:30-8:30.

"Oh, that's a bad shift; way too short," she says.

              "No, it's fine," say I.

But she decides it really IS a bad shift and in the middle of the phone call changes it to 3:30-8:30 so it's now a five-hour shift instead of a four-hour shift.

So yeah, not a big change by any means but I'm still pissed about it. Tomorrow I go in from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., after which I'm going back to the employment centre and starting to send out resumes. I can't afford to just walk out ... unfortunately.

One of the ones who is leaving for another job will be working at the local casino; she doesn't think there are any cashier jobs open right ATM (she's going in at management level) but I will ask her to keep me in mind if any such jobs do show up.
