  • Quantity not quality!

I don't know what it is with this one lot. It's just one of about 30 owned by the same reality company, with the same rules, restrictions and permits as all the rest. But, for some reason, fakes turn up here at an alarming rate compared to everywhere else.

    2 in the last month

    6 in the last year

More than any other single lot I stalk

At least 3 of those were the result of a permit-forging ring that quickly gave up when their first batch of "customers" got towed away owing to their sweatshop-like QC, but the rest are inexplicable.

I'm only musing this because I caught another one last night.

Seriously dude? There wasn't ANYTHING around you when you made that forgery that had a measly 8 inch straight edge on it? No books? No notepads? No rulers? No porno mags? DVD case? Your own most-likely-flat cranium? From walking into doors you once again forgot to open before trying to egress the facilities?

Because if you had only cut the sides in nice straight lines, as opposed to ones that meandered like the Mississippi, I probably wouldn't have caught you.

Oh wait, yes I would have, because the corners of that permit were "snowflakes", that is, every single one was unique, one was sharp and angular, one was rounded and oblong, one was kinda wavy and another had tiny little "mouse bite" marks, like when you try to cut precisely with scissors that are about 3 sizes too big for the job and instead of a nice clean corner, you get the shearing version of a 10-point turn in a tight parking lot. Kinda like the 10 point turn we had to make to get the tow truck in and out of there with your car last night....

$115, cash or credit, no checks, master forger.

So people are forging parking permits? You'd think they would put their talents to better use. :P
People may think I am a Satanist, but I'm really not.

Why would I worship those that I rule?

Unless illegal parking is their talent, I know a few people about to earn their cutie marks for it considering how good they are at it.

I was reading a story last week about someone passing counterfeit money in Idaho.

        They were counterfeit $1 bills.

Probably cost more to make than they were worth.

Once again, someone tries to swim upstream against the mighty river that is Sir Arga of Barga's forgery-spotting talents.

True, but the thing about counterfeit $1 bills is, no one expects you to forge them.

I know, right? It's just baffling. Why pull a scam that costs you more money than the real thing?

Same with the parking permits. Even if the fool doesn't get caught, wanna bet the fakes cost more to make than buying a real one? Really, there comes a point where "stickin' it to Da Man!" is more trouble than it's worth.

Off topic, but from what I understand it cost the government 6-9 cents to print a dollar bill..so even if it cost the forgers ten times that ... it would still be a 'profit' until cost. Think the only thing that cost more to make then it is worth to print is pennies. Of course..I could be wrong about the cost.

On topic - I am curious as to how much a permit costs per month/year. Isn't there something more lucrative they could be trying (and failing) to forge?

I read somewhere that nickels also cost more to make than they're worth, but I don't know if that's correct or not. And, as it's 1 am and I'm off too bed, I'mma not gonna look it up right now.

Where I used to live it cost slightly more than a parking ticket to get a year's permit... Of course, even with such a slim margin some people will take the gamble & consider it a "saving" if they get towed, but don't try pointing out to them that they've been towed multiple times which has lost them their "saving" 'cause it really makes them upset...
