Basically, to someone from another region/country, you always have an accent.

I mean, I have what I call a "standard American non-accent." It's not that I don't have an accent. I just have the one you hear most often in movies when someone's supposed to be American and isn't using a notably region-specific one. We recently moved to the south, and when I got talking accents and moving with someone, they said, "Yeah, I can tell you aren't from around here. You've got an accent." I laughed.

My Mom grew up in northern Indiana. (Like juuuust south of the border with Michigan.) And yet when we were moving from Texas to Virginia, one of the movers was able to peg my Mom as being from northwestern Pennsylvania.

My Mom was BORN there, but moved to Indiana when she was 3.

I've done that one before. I remember the map jumping all over the place regarding my dialect. I also remember that being the first place both my husband (Texan) and I (New Yorker) had ever encountered the phrase, "The devil is beating his wife." It's interesting seeing the little map's coverage for each term, as it'll mark my home region as "least similar" for quite a few words that I heard all over the place growing up.

According to this go-through of the quiz, my dialect is most similar to SLC and two cities in southern California.
