  • RIP Harper Lee

    Link

I think every high school student has read her work at least once.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

She had not been well for quite some time. There was a lot of speculation last year that the publication of the "prequel" book was only possible because she wasn't really aware of what was going on...
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

I've never actually read To Kill A Mockingbird, though it's on my "must read" list. Did see most of the movie, loved Gregory Peck's performance.

Ms. Lee lived a good, long, interesting life. May she rest in peace.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Berke Breathed (The Bloom County/Outland guy) has posted some tributes to her -- it seems he held her in the highest regard. From today:

A few days ago, he posted a letter from her, and the story behind it:
