    1. Is there a name for the web of skin and muscle between your thumb and index finger,

    2. If so, what's it called, and

    3. If one were to severely pound it and end up in immense pain, how long can one expect the pain to continue and make it hard to grip or use that hand?

Is it showing a bruise yet? In my experience, it will be functional again / back to normal in two weeks. If you know of anyone who has one of those full wrist braces for carpal tunnel - borrow it and use it that will make it heal faster IME.

If you don't know of anyone with such a brace, hand and wrist braces are relatively cheap at most Walgreen's/CVS/Rite Aid type stores.
