To quote (IIRC - saw it years ago) a Bugs Bunny spoof of Robin Hood, the term "Clothyard shaft through the wishbone" springs to mind. Don't even need knights to protect a lady's honour - a peasant with a quarterstaff (actually, it's a buck-and-a-quarter quarterstaff, but don't tell anyone ) can do the job.

YOIKS! AND AWAY *SMASH*
Quarter staff is fun. I should get back into that.
Stormraven - I fight with a German Longsword. It too is fairly light. But when your swinging that, AND steel Gauntlets (they are my hand protection. I have no furniture only a ring and cross guard) then it can get heavy, like you say

Got seriously letched by him at a Star Trek convention many years ago. Man can write, no argument, but geez what a sleeze . . .

You are not the first person to make the latter assessment. There's a tale out there about his first and last day working for a rodent...

And if anyone ever hears that full suit(of any armour)weighed over 100+ lbs, please hit them because they are idiots and are in need of being beaten.
|
Tournament armour maybe, but not armour intended for battle. With tournament armour, the only attack which is expected is a lance thrust while jousting, so it can be made extra-thick - after all, the wearer won't have to swing a sword and dodge blows.

Okay, had to add a bit of RenFaire non suck to the thread. the Knights of Mayhem were jousting at the Utah Faire last month when the wife and I were out there visiting, and Charlie was awesome. He was all smiles and handshakes for fans of the show, thanked people for the attention and was more than happy to get pics and sign pieces of lance (I promised Mrs redbeard that I'd beat down an 8 year old next year if I have to for here. Kids SWARMED the jousting field for those pieces of wood after the joust)

I only went to one of those things once, when I was a kid in the 1970s, so I didn't exactly get to appreciate much in the way of costumed women. They did have cinammon popcorn though (which doesn't come from medieval times, but meh).

On the OP: Sounds like you are talking about Koroneberg Faire. Been a while since we've been to that one, most of our energy goes to Escondido and The Dam (the Original) Faire.
To everyone else: if you want to find a ren faire near you, I would recommend (unless deemed inappropriate by the moderators) that you check out www.faires.com for a near-complete world-wide listing of ren faires and ren-like faires.

Not the first time I've heard of such a thing. I don't know if it's ignorance or wanting to show off, but so many faire newbies think that a faux fur bikini or attire like that little girl is "renaissance".
|
At the Maryland Ren Fest there are/were (it's been a few years) a pair of twins that wore fur bikinis. They were more modestly dressed than that iconic Raquel Welch poster of her in "One Million BC".
This person sounds like the "Skank Whore Monthly" Mrs. October centerfold.

Here's a page for Faires in the USA, listed by state: http://www.renaissancemagazine.com/fairelist.html
