  • Getting NWN to work on Vista

Ok, I've tried different compatibility modes to get NWN(Never Winter Nights) to work on Vista, but not having any luck. I know it can be done cause I have a guildie who has gotten it to work on his Vista machine.
I want a game I can play w/o having to be online, for those times when my internet crashes.(Cable company, nothing I can do about it. Lasts a couple days then goes away.)

Your best bet is to check with the manufacturer's site to see if there are any patches/upgrades for NeverWinter Nights. I believe it's Bioware?

If that doesn't work, let me know.

Um, worked immediately for me. Straight from the box, no patches.

Any chance you're running the 64-bit version of Vista? Many machines at the retailers up here are running that because they are loading them with 4 gb's of RAM or more.

Should have mentioned that - I'm running 64bit Vista with 4Gb of ram. Works fine.

The only things I've been able to find that may be of use are:

            - Download the Final Patch from their site -- versions prior to 1.68 are apparently actively blocked from running on Vista. Patch here: http://nwn.bioware.com/players/169/

            - Try Run As Administrator. Right-click the icon, click Properties, then the button on the shortcut tab that takes you to the containing folder (Find Target in XP, not sure in vista). Pull up the properties for the Launcher and for any other EXEs in there, and set them to always "Run as Administrator"

I don't have Vista, so about all I can do is I wish you luck

I can't update NWN, and every time I try to get the patch from the site my browser crashes.
The patch stops at 1.67, and tells me that it can't patch that cause the patch is unfound.

You will definitely need 1.68 or 1.69 (the latter is the final one they made, so get that). Here's some download locations from gooooooooogle:

                http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/82/N...ish+Patch+1.69

                http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch...69-Patch.shtml

http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch.html == this is the game maker's patchpage, so this is the best bet. The first set of links in there is the one to use if you have Platinum/Diamond version

http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch_manual.html == this is their autopatcher program

As for a browser crash -- try a different browser and see what happens, perhaps?
