If there are other retro gamers here who were frustrated with how old consoles look on HDTV's, I recommend getting a Framemeister upscaler unit. Mine came today, and my games look almost exactly the same on my (bargain-basement) HD set as they do on my CRT. It even emulates the scan lines (which, oddly enough, do make them look better).
They're expensive as hell (~$350), but absolutely worth it if you're as obsessed with you consoles as I am.
That's one source of nervous obsessing I can probably write off. My therapist will be happy.
