  • A little help with vacation.

Ok, I've finally figured out when I'm able to take a vacation this year. It will be late July, and I'm going to Vegas. I've been there 3 times before, but always stayed on Fremont St.

This time I want to try the strip for something new. So, my fellow CSers, I ask you, where do you like to stay on the Strip in Vegas? I will be booking my vacation very soon.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Last time we stayed in Vegas we stay at the Luxor in the pyramid. Loved it. We have also stayed at Excalibur, which was also very nice.
Coffee should be strong, black and chewy! It should strip paint and frighten small children.

Planthollywood towers is a condo setup but they still rent rooms in the towers and in the hotel. It is in the big shopping area on the strip and is easy to get around from there. We always stay there because for some reason we took their "free" 2 day stay and ended up with a timeshare. We always have fun.

truthfully, the last trip we took to Vegas, we drove out 2 days to get there, took the I-70(colorado was amazing) spent 3 days in Primm, south of vegas. It was only $20 a night and the food was great and it was 30 min into Vegas. We then took the southern route back for 2 days and it was amazing as well. if you are driving it is well worth the trip...

We stayed at Excalibur years ago. It was fine, (and cheap, which was my criteria at the time). Next time, I'd like to stay at New York, New York. They're further down on the strip, so it was a trek to get to the Mirage or Bellagio, but it wasn't bad.

Now you're making me want to go to Vegas...

My DH and I go to Vegas several times a year. We have stayed on and off strip. Last X-mas we decided to stay on strip at the Mirage.
It wasn't what I expected from a major resort.
They must have had major staffing issues in their valet, because they "lost" our car once and we waited over an hour to get it. The next time it took 30 minutes. The following time 45 minutes.
After that we started self parking--but that was annoying because it was a very long walk through the casino.
The rest of the stay was ok. Attentive staff, great steak house, decent rooms.

Now this may sound petty, but valet parking is a must for us when visiting. I have never had any issues with any other resort, big or small.

A couple of strip casinos are under renovation, Imperial Palace--it's called something else now and MGM Grand. You may want to check them out.

Casinos I have stayed at: Tuscany Suites, Imperial Palace, Mirage, Luxor,Main Street Station, Fitzgeralds, Hilton, Gold Nugget, Strat and Palace Station.
You can pm me if you want any opinions on any of those casinos.

I'll be flying in for a 5 day stay. I had to pull a lot of teeth to get it.

I'm not too into shows. The only one I'd like to see is Penn and Teller. As a Penn's Sunday School fan, I'd like to see his day (night) job. I'm a hetro guy, so Thunder Down Under wouldn't do it for me.

Like I said before - I've stayed on Fremont St. the 3 times I've been there before - Plaza, and Fitz/D. I'm not too much into slots (might play for shits and giggles), mostly poker. I prefer NLHE tournaments, but will play limit ring games in a pinch.

I've never spent much time on the strip. I usually went through there one day on my trip to go to the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum. On the way back I spent a little time there before I went back DT.

The main thing I want is a nice pool to swim in. As lvsssycat knows - the pool at the Fitz (now the D) sucks. At least the one at the Plaza was pretty nice. Some year I'm going to stay at the Golden Nugget and enjoy their waterpark.

I'm starting to narrow down my choices, and will be booking next week probably. All I know is I really need it.

We went to Vegas at the end of April. We stayed at Excalibur. The rooms are clean and very inexpensive. We did not care for their casino, so we took the tram to Mandalay Bay to gamble. Since most of the casinos are connected either by walkways over the streets or by tram, they are not difficult to get to. We have talked about trying a different hotel the next time we go.

Vacation booked. Staying at the Stratosphere. I love the tower, and have been up there several times already. Thew pool looked nice, and the price was right.

Late July, I'm going to have a good time.

Thanks for all of your advice and help with this subject. I really appreciate it.

Let me know about the pool when you get back. I'm looking at the Strat for a vacation for myself, BF and another couple.
