  • Happy Oz Day everyone

Just like to say Happy Australia Day to all the Aussies.

I hope your bbq's had plenty of gas, your sausages were hot and your drinks were cold.

I had my first Oz Day at home in 3 years and boy did I enjoy it. Six cocktails later and I'm surprised I'm typing straight.
I had a BBQ and some pavlova and Australia shaped biscuits. We even had the Triple J countdown on. The sun was out. Perfect day.

How did everyone else spend theirs?

Can't speak for myself (in Canuckistan), but a lot of people threw scrawny short guys onto Mattel's fashion doll.

I did not have snags, but I had a nice cool drink.

I spent a chunk of it sleeping in, then driving out to the hills region in my state to spend time with my boyfriend.

        That sounds delightful, fireheart.

I spent mine quietly; but then my birthday is two days before Aussie Day. So I'll tell what I did then, instead.

My parents and brother live interstate - Queensland, whereas I'm in Victoria - so they just mailed me presents. Some lovely fruit jellies (the fancy sort, not the 'get a hundred in a cheap bag' sort); a luck bracelet, and the piece de resistance: a soft pashmina scarf/shawl. It's sort of intermediate in size.
Part of my disabilities issue is tactile - soft fabric matters. And this is delightfully soft now I've washed it, and it's oh-so-pretty. Graduated browns.

My loving-family bought me a bunch of roses; A chose rosebuds so I would get to see them open and bloom. They also bought me a copy of Sims 3, with the Pets and Supernatural expansions (I spent Australia day with a fairy and a witch and their two cats...).
They took me out to dinner at a delightfully sinful restaurant, with what was going to be two of our closest friends, but one of them had to cancel. So it was one of our closest friends instead. The restaurant specialises in pancakes and crepes with assorted whatever - I had a 'canadian' pancakes special, which is 2 pancakes, far too much bacon, eggs, butter, faux-maple-syrup. (real maple syrup is extra - it's way expensive here.)
And we decided to share two desserts. A 'lamingtons' pancakes stack, which is two pancakes smothered in chocolate and coconut shreds, with cream and jam between them. And a chocolate jubilee: chocolate pancakes, chocolate syrup, strawberries, ice cream and cream.

A's parents sent me a bracelet. Her mother has been learning to make jewelry out of silver wire, and this is a 'foxtail' bracelet, made especially to my size. Fits perfectly around my wrist, with just enough extra space to be not-tight, but not so much that it's loose.

D's mother hasn't sent me anything yet, but she's old and lonely and I'm not worried about that. Much more worried about her welfare, given the flooding where she lives.

        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

I had a nice quiet day with a great book and some good coffee. We were going to go to a friend's BBQ but the weather disagreed and our youngest had a cold and was rather cranky. Worked out well because we were ready for the storm when it arrived.
