  • Crazy day at work & questions for the customerssuck.com members

First some background information relating to this post:

There are two reserved events going on today sponsored by the President's office. One event began yesterday and ends this Thursday. The other event is today at 7 p.m. According to "Andrea", the Director of Parking & Transportation, Visitor Parking is reserved Tuesday through Friday of this week. There will be two reserved events this Friday...one reserved by a dept. located on the same floor as the President's office & one reserved by the President's office beginning at 5 p.m.

Last semester the drama dept. at the university I work at as a contract parking attendant had their very first musical. Earlier this week I saw a sign at one of the elevator banks inside the main bldg. that the cast will be performing at one of the President's office reserved events.

The above information is important to remember.

"Missy", who works in the Parking office, posted on the Outlook calendar the list of vendors who will be delivering food for one of the President's office reserved events today. There was not a listing of the vendors who arrived yesterday for the President's office reserved event. According to "Andrea" & "Missy", only the vendors who will be delivering food for one of the President's reserved events are allowed to park. She also turned on the full sign so no one not here for the President's office reserved event could park. I also put the big white sign stating Visitor Parking is closed for a special event near the entrance gate to Visitor Parking. If the guest was here for one of the President's office reserved events, but they were not one of the vendors, I have to call the Parking office to get clearance.

"Andrea" calls me around 9 a.m. to let me know that at the request of the vendors who will be coming & going for one of the President's office reserved events, the exit gate to Visitor Parking will be raised so they can come & go without any problems. She told me that if anyone not here for the President's office event wants to park in Visitor Parking to let them know that if they decide to enter through the exit gate, which will be up, that they may receive a parking ticket or a citation from campus police. I have to make sure that no one not here for the President's office reserved event enters Visitor Parking. If the person drives towards the exit gate, I have to write down their license plate number & call her if they in fact enter the garage. Then she will call campus police.

Then at 2 p.m. "Andrea" remotely raised the entrace gate & the exit gate to Visitor Parking & changed the full sign to open. She also called me to let me know to move the big white sign stating Visitor Parking is closed for a special event & place it near the entrace to the Visitor Parking booth.

Calling the Parking office to get clearance:

One of the cast members for the musical arrived & asked if she could park. She told me she also goes to school at the university. So I call the Parking office. "Missy" answers the phone, & I tell her why I am calling. She tells me that since the cast member is a student, she has to park in student parking. I tell the cast member this. She is mad, & so I tell her if she has any questions, to ask the Parking office.

A vendor who arrived yesterday (when there was no vendor list) returned today for the other President's office reserved event. I asked her what company she works for. She gave me that information, & I called the Parking office. "Missy" answered the phone & told me she has to find other parking since the company she works for is not on today's vendor list. I told the vendor the bad news. She asks me why can't she park today but she could park yesterday. I could not give her a valid reason. So she calls her boss, who asks her the same thing. I call the Parking office again & "Missy" answers the phone. I tell her why I am calling. She puts me on hold, gets back on the line, & tells me that according to "Andrea", the vendor has to pay the $5.00 parking fee. I tell the vendor the bad news. She calls her boss to let her know what is happening. She decides she will pay. I raise the gate for her to enter.

My questions for the customerssuck.com members are...
    • Was it a good idea for the entrance gate & the exit gate to be up beginning at 2 p.m. & for the full sign to be changed to open?
    • Should anyone not here for the reserved event receive a parking ticket or a citation from campus police if they enter the garage when the gates are up?
    • Was it a good idea to send the cast member of the musical to student parking?
    • Was it fair for the vendor who came yesterday to have to pay $5.00?

    Answer to #1- No
Answer to #2- No... all that is needed is needed in a civil (could go to criminal) case is that they gate were up.. and the sign was noted as open (double points if pictures were taken)
Answer to #3-No.. but only if they were dressed up. If they were not dressed up.. then it would be fine. If they were dressed up, and their uniform got ruined.. she could very easily hold the parking department responsible
Answer to #4-Oh hell no! Could lose the vendor.. and if I was the President of the college and found out those two women cost us the contract.. those woman would have lost their jobs.

Our vendors have to pay for parking, though it's in their contracts that they have to pay to park.
