I am going to try to surprise my mother for her birthday on Feb 21st. She has been dropping hints she wants a freezer..but one that opens from the side. Not a compact one either (Found a couple of those). If anybody can find one that does not cost more then a couple of hundred...let me know. So far the cheapest I've found is $641 which is way out of my price range.

What you are seeking is referred to as an upright freezer, and the vast majority of the breed live in the $400-$700 range.
Home Depot has an 8.8cu ft model for just over $300.
Best Buy has a 6.9cu ft one for $200.
