Really. Not to be too irreverent, but when I was told he died, my first reply was "Are they sure?"
From everything I hear, the new film is awful. Very sorry to hear that. There will never be another like Jonathan Frid.
ETA: You know, I think Barnabas Collins was the first "conflicted" fictional vampire. Dracula was pure evil, Nosferatu pretty much the same, and most vampires were shown as nasty creatures. While Barnabas had an arrogant side, as they got into the story it was clear that he hated what had happened to him, and all he wanted was to be reunited with his lover, Josette. Not that he went about it in a good way, but 100+ years of living as a vampire will do that to ya...
