    Wouldn't be surprised of that Goodwill was his "supplier"
    That's what I suspected. He had a "live one" (someone who wanted a specific item), and "one of his suppliers" implied that he went there regularly, so why WOULDN'T he call the customer - other than the fact that the "supplier" had sold the item in question, so HE couldn't get it?

      I hate to ask, but what is a "JATO"? Is it like an ASBO (Anti-Social Behaviour Order)?

            He comes back out with an acoustic guitar. You know, one we had way in the back, that was indeed priced, but wasn't ready to be put out on the floor yet. And the back, as in the place where we test a lot of the donated shit to see if it really does work / structurally sound / not infested with spiders. It also tends to be one of the two employee break rooms.

            We shrug it off, figuring it was bound to be sold anyways, though there was a general air of pleasant annoyance from awesome boss about going in the back and picking up items.
            There should've been more than that. Back rooms are supposed to be Employees Only, and for good reason. I presume you have your lockers back there? What if he'd decided to go back there and help himself to the employee lockers too? Or any of the equipment (computers, scanners, other expensive stuff) that the store uses? Stealing from a charity is the lowest of the low, but he could've also stolen stuff from you, personally.

            This guy needs to be perma-banned, STAT. And your store should seriously consider putting some sort of keypad lock or some other barrier to the back room to keep non-employees out. It may not seem like a big deal now, but it can be a disaster later on.

            I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

                I've gotta ask - was the $2 price tag INTENDED for the guitar, or did he switch it from another item while he was in the "Employees only" area?

                To top it off, he was buying to re-sell on eBay? With a charity-run shop, if the price is low, the customer gets a good deal, and if it's high, the charity gets more income. For a parasite to come in, buy at a low price, then re-sell at a high price (extracting a benefit that should have gone to either the charity or an end-user) sucks.

                Many years ago, I was looking for an electric fridge defroster (no longer made, due to prevalence of frost-free fridges, but good for defrosting deep freezes). At a flea market booth, I described what I was looking for, and the guy told me that he had seen one at one of his suppliers but didn't get it because he didn't think it would sell. He took down my name and number, and was going to call me back. On my way home from the flea market, I saw a Goodwill that I hadn't known about before, so I pulled in to check things out. In "small appliances", they had an electric fridge defroster priced at $3, so I bought it. Never did hear back from the flea market guy.
                No idea if it was the intended resell price. On one hand, it was a no-brand guitar with a bent neck, that could be straightened out. On the other hand, we now have a violin sitting behind the counter, in case etc., for 40 bucks.

                I personally have no problem if people resell from the thrift store, just so long as we're paid a fair and honest price for it first. Apparently, we had huge issues with the maintenance and other people walking out with expensive items before they ever hit the floor, never paid a dime, a while back, but that's been long since fixed.

                As much as we'd like to, two of us, including my boss, are total newbies to the company, and we're already getting a few whines from the other shifts about how we're reorganizing the store so stuff can be found in a general, clean, nice looking area, rather than massive piles of stuff that we started with.

                There's not too many expensive items that are used exclusively by the organization, though, in the thrift store-- most of it is located at the main office, which is much better protected.

                Personal items, yes. I'm just thankful that I usually don't bring anything besides my dinner and rubber gloves.

                Also, flames to the people who know we've posted No Public Restroom signs. We're allowing it if its, say, a little kid who's suddenly got ill (there's not much you can do there), or an extremely elderly person. But I was directed to escort a lady to the restrooms in the back, tried telling her where to go, and she told me she knew where they were, she's done this before!

                Baaaaaaaaah. XD;
