  • Hernia repair/mesh

I may have to talk to my doctor about this but....

I had a hernia repair, with mesh inserted, exactly a year ago. Since then the area with the mesh has been way bigger than the rest of my abdomen, not that any of it is small but now it's literally lopsided, and I just feel like I haven't gotten my energy back.

I read my surgery reports and I took note of the sponge count being good. I watch too many medical shows and I wanted to make sure nothing got left in there! Nothing hurts I just can't tolerate standing or walking much anymore. My muscles feel like mush and I just don't have any tolerance.

Plus I've been seeing way too many of those commercials about hernia repair going bad and how you can use this lawyer to get money back

I just wonder if anyone else had this surgery, and how did you feel afterwards?

I hope that's not the same mesh that's been used to help "bring the bladder back up" (the vaginal mesh)

December 2012. I have had no problems with it. I was wonder if it would cause complications when the appendix ruptured in 2014. i.e. appendix pieces caught in the mesh. Nope. All is good.

My husband had it done in 2016 and was still experiencing some pain when lifting heavy things, and his abdomen was bulging on one side (he had the mesh put in on both sides). Exactly a year later he had it redone and has had no problems since. Definitely see your doctor about your concerns, they sound similar to his except he still had some pain.

I had that surgery about 10 years ago and haven't had any problems.

My hysterectomy also consisted of the bladder repair using mesh. This was done back in 2006. No problems at all. If you are experiencing pain, discomfort and/or bulging, you need to see your physician.

No bladder mesh, just the hernia one. It's been exactly a year now and I hope to not have to re do it. I don't have pain per se but I just don't have any stamina if that makes sense.

Have you had any blood workup since then. Sounds like you may be allergic to the mesh they used. The Meshes are very chemically inert, but sometimes your body will react to them anyway. Just enough for some swelling and other allergic symptoms, but not enough to where you feel really bad.

Yeah I've had blood work done but it's for diabetic checks, and I haven't heard anything abnormal. Hmmm hadn't considered that.
