BG: Make quilts, sell them online and also at craft shows in the fall /end BG

So I get a call from my grandmother about lunchtime. A friend of hers wants to buy a quilt for thier new grandbaby. This is all well and good. What? Coming by today? This afternoon at 2? And get all my baby quilts out for her to look at?



Yes I do work at home, but I also have 2 small kidlets at home. My house is not always "presentation ready". While I would love to have a "showroom" built into our house for clients to come and look at quilts, we currently don't have the space for it.

So this afternoon instead of working on quilts, I had to get more OCD then normal and clean the house, then gather up all 35+ baby quilts I currently have all folded neatly on the couch so they can come by and shop.

Yeah I did get it all done, just barely.

But seriously, can I have a little more notice next time?

After all that, did they even buy anything?

Yeah they did. They bought a toddler bed quilt and pillow set. So I was happy at least.

But I don't like the stress of only having 2 hours to make the house *perfect*

How about making it clear to everyone and his mother that you want either a) 24-hours advance notice or b) No people treating your private home like an open-house showroom. After all, while this is a business for you, it is your business and should be run in a manner convenient to you and not them

Normally if I'm having a client visit my home it's to pick up something, so they're in and out and mainly just in my sewing room. (Which is in the front of the house.)

I think this impromtu showroom thing was mainly an innocent thing. Mainly that my grandmother was so proud and wanted to show off. Since she's getting senile, that's the answer I'm going to go with.

Doesn't make it any less frustrating however.

I'm a bit cluttered and thus require notice when people are coming over to at least make my place semi-presentable. Thus I despise people just inviting themselves over. Yes, it's happened.

Thankfully even my friends (who i have an open door policy with) still give the courtesy to call ahead.

My family however is somewhat lacking in the department. All I ask is *some* notice if it's just them coming over, and obviously a lot more time to prep/clean/whatever if they're inviting potential clients over.

I liken it to a spontanious tupperware party.

Edit: I do keep my house clean, I just like having time to vacuum, pick up the kids toys, etc before I have strangers in my home.
