  • I am NOT Google or Microsoft or Apple...ask them!

It's amazing how customers at red checkmark expect us to be all knowing experts on every app, game, tool and whatever else is on their phones.

I had a customer the other day ask if she could talk to an "Outlook expert" because she was having an issue with syncing her contacts. Of course I told her I could assist but what I really wanted to say was: "Well you can, but you'd have to call Microsoft, red checkmark doesn't make or support Outlook."

I had another customer wanting me to explain to him why this app he downloaded that is supposed to do X isn't working. While I can provide basic support, my company does NOT make the app. I can verify your phone is working, but beyond that you're on your own.

I have customers daily who want help connecting their computers to a mobile hotspot running with their phone or their wifi is not working. I can troubleshoot the phone side of this issues but if your Windows Vista machine doesn't like your hotspot or your wireless router sucks, that is NOT my responsibility.

And no, I can't tell you how to beat level 37 of Candy Crush either.

    PREACH IT BROTHER!

Speaking as an easy button veteran for 4 years, the things I've been asked about and expected to know. From cell phones, to magically divining printer model numbers, maximum operating temperatures. Whether or not something will work with X device from 10 years ago or foreign country or honestly just the stock at other stores.

Probably the same type of mentality that leads people to ask me how to configure IIS (Microsoft's web server software) to disable certain ciphers our product can't transparently read.

Sorry, we're not Microsoft. Yes we have an article on how to do the same for Apache, but you notice how we don't have articles for Tomcat, nginx, and every other web server out there? Yeah, it's your server--YOU configure it!

It is as I have said. The wireless industry is a total inversion of normal customer expectations

But - But - BUT I still can't beat Level 37 on Candy Crush. WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

I have a better suggestion: stick a bottle in their mouth and they should STFU real quick.

I probably just dated myself though, kids raised post-internet probably wonder what that is.....

I actually prefer having the hardcopy strategy guides for my games. It makes it a lot easier to find all those damn collectibles, and I don't have to waste time looking for a walkthrough with pictures on line.

Plus it doesn't use up any Internet bandwidth!

I get the same at my place of employment. We sell cameras, video camera and related accessories - flashes, lights, reflectors - all sorts of good stuff.

Yet our customers get upset if we can't tell them how to edit their photos/video, or why the software doesn't work on their computer... Not really our issue or area of expertise...

I work for a pharmacy that happens to have a photo department - where I work.

I can help you print photos, from your phone, from an SD card, from a flash drive, from a CD. Heck, I can even tell you how to do all of those things from your home instead of in the store.

What I CAN'T do?????? tell you how to update your phone, make your SD card save "more", upload email from your phone to a camera (what???), make your computer "go faster", change the quality of those pictures from 40+ years ago!

                    I am a PHOTO specialist - not a PHONE/COMPUTER specialist - nor a magician!

                    I feel your pain :-)

I bought GTA V with the special edition Hintbook, because it came with some great art prints. As Jay 2K says, it's a lot easier than trying to work out what the internet's telling you... At least until the YouTube Watch & Plays get made

Does your hintbook use invisible ink so that you need to use that damn "highlighter" so you can read the answers?

One awesome hintbook I had was for the Sega Genesis port of Starflight. It came in the form of a "captain's log" at the back of the manual, detailing the travels of a future captain whose escape pod was blasted back in time somehow.

Play it over and over until you finally are lucky enough to have the right pieces in the right places to win. That's how most levels go, honestly.
