aka, the sequel to "Everybody Runs Out of Milk."
More snow fell last night, forecasters were predicting (depending on which station you were watching) either 4-6 inches or 5-8 inches (saw that one on my Weather Underground app) and we went right back into another State of Emergency.
Yesterday was busy, of course, with folks doing their usual breadandmilkbreadandmilk panic, which was starting to get into full swing right around the time I was walking out the door at 2:30. Some of our sections were still kinda low already by then b/c we'd had another snow rush on Monday and everybody woke to anywhere from a dusting to 1 inch of snow (as Bill Engvall would say: enough to make a footprint.)
Luckily this morning it was just powdered snow, so it wasn't hard to clear off the wheelchair ramp and, after slipping a bit on our road and Mom driving almost 5 miles an hour down Phillips Avenue (it's hilly in sections) I was only 7 minutes late this morning (Grasshopper said to take my time when I called the store - back roads especially were bad this morning and this was around 6:45.)
Hadn't been out on the floor long after clocking in, was trying to straighten out the destroyed bread section, the wine section and the beer case (all of these sections are on one aisle together) I see this customer wander down the aisle and ask me "What are you doing open this morning?"
"We're not allowed to close," I replied and went back to straightening the wine section.
Then it hit me after she'd wandered away: she DID really ask me that. WTF???
Too bad I couldn't ask her "What the FUCK are you doing in here in this weather?"
At least I didn't have to hear anyone complain about running out of milk this morning . . . case was blown out again - only a handful of skim and 1% again (whole and 2% move out faster) and a few half gallons and quarts. I guess not many of our customers want the soy or almond milks.
I'm waiting for the griping on the milk to commence again tomorrow . . . Dairy guy only got in 2 small half pallets of gallons and after he was done running those to the shelf, he had NO back stock left.
Same with Appleseed over in Produce. He and a part timer who came in ran 2 1/2 pallets of produce and only had a few boxes of cabbage, some potatoes and a dozen cases of salad mixes left after everything was ran through.
And if the roads are so bad and the radio and news stations are advising everyone to STAY INDOORS (including the National Weather Service) as we had a severe winter storm warning in effect until noon, why for the love of Cheese are you dragging yourself into the store in your damn pajama bottoms??? Or bringing your babies out in this weather???
And how many vendor deliveries did I get today? ONE and I was surprised I had that one. Turns out the Red drink guys sent their trucks out 2 hours later than they normally leave the warehouse . . . got the call from Bullfrog (my regular driver who, no matter the weather, will be out in it in a T-Shirt and SHORTS!! I swear he has no feelings in his legs, but I digress) and he made it in right before noon w/2 pallets.
Most of my time was spent either straightening out the chip side of the aisle, running cigs and candy (yesterday's grocery truck was being unloaded when I left yesterday afternoon) and running through the Cheerwine back stock and trying to fill that section up (it was literally empty and none of their guys were out running their routes at all today - I'll see them tomorrow and get my delivery that was supposed to have come today) and try to finish up my date rotation for the week (still not finished. And don't look to BJ to help either . . .he'll find more busy work on a Friday so he can get out of rolling up his sleeves and helping me out.)
Be interesting to see how bad it'll be tomorrow. Lows in the mid 20's and the stuff that has melted will just freeze . . . at least tomorrow will be Friday.
Just let me get through one more day without somebody being a total twit and I'll be sleeping in on Saturday while whichever MOD gets to check in the Pepsi delivery (my Friday delivery will be coming Saturday since they did not run the trucks today.)
