  • Diamond Member With an Attitude

Thursday night. Don't know what this lady's problem was. She has a free night for earning enough points. I ask for a CC

SC: What do you need a credit card for? This is on points.
Me: I see that, but we require a CC for incidentals.
SC: Is this all hotels or just this one? I've never stayed at a hotel that requires a CC.
Me: (*coughbullshit*) I'm sorry, but we require a CC here.
SC: Then I won't be staying here again.
Me: (Promise?) I just need you to sign--
SC: I'm a diamond member! I know how to fill out one of these!

Part of our 2nd floor has a balcony that overlooks the lobby. I overheard her talking to her husband, although I question who would want to be this SC's husband.

SC: I needed a CC. Apparently they think I'm going to tear up the carpet or something.

"And if you're a Diamond member, Sweetie, you know damned well we need a credit card."

Don't you wish you could sy that, just once?
Sorry, my cow died so I don't need your bull

If she knows how to fill out a CC Incidental Form, then obviously she's had to fill one out more often than "never."

off the top of my head, i'm pretty sure incidentals are for if you buy anything that is charged to your room- for insatnce, the telephone in your room? if you call someone using that, then i'm pretty sure the cost is charged to your room. Same for if you buy drinks in the hotel bar, I think- or you have the option, anyway-

and they might not expect you to tear in the carpet, but hotels have learned from bitter experience that it is usually too late after someone has screwed things up for them. (plus, there is a reason for the stereotype in fiction of hotel travelers stealing things from their rooms)

Lady, incidentals aren't just damage to the room. Your hubs watches that pay-per-view porno when you leave the room? That's an incidental. Open that mini-fridge? Another incidental. Room service? Incidental. Incidentals are the little things you don't need to have while you stay. If you have an ounce of self-control (and given the level of protest, I am assuming you don't have) you'll never be charged for any incidentals.

See, I'm not a diamond member and I know what incidentals are!

To be fair, our hotel doesn't have many things, if anything, that you pay extra for. In our case, it is mostly to cover damages and smoking. And being located in Colorado, it's not uncommon for SC's to think that just because the state legalized certain items, that we have to allow its consumption in our rooms.

The fact that she went there without the conversation having gone that direction makes me wonder if she'd planned something damaging or is just totally careless with others' property.

Diamond member with an attitude....isn't that almost redundant?
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Do you have smoking rooms? I see no real reason why it couldn't be consumed in there.

I even had to give my cc for a room that was prepaid for me, by someone else, for a wedding I was in. Not a fancy hotel, and I knew I wouldn't be doing any damage, so I forked it over. And you know what, no extra charges!

Nope, everything in our hotel is non-smoking.

I don't think I've ever stayed at a hotel/motel which didn't require a cc, at least on file. One place let us pay in cash (three people, three nights, we each paid the hotel direct for one night per person), but one of us had to give a cc number and that's normal. We were happy they let us break up the charges, I understand not all places will let you.

Also, they could "consume" pot in a food item such as brownies, which won't produce smoke, right? They just can't smoke anything.

Oh for Pete's sake, "sign here" and "ID" aren't unreasonable requests, it's the normal everyday bureaucracy that makes the world go round' , just submit to it and it'll be over before you even have TIME to get indignant about it.

I know the cops in this town, and they know me, not quite first-name, but as well as you can know someone when your professions come in contact a lot.

And every time I file a report with them, or vice versa, they need my DL. For the paperwork, I've gotten to the point that I'll have it out and ready and they have their notepads out and ready so we can get it over with and move on with life.

From a pragmatic standpoint, you may be totally in the "right" to refuse to cooperate, but, that only makes things take longer.

Had the same thing happen for my Mom's funeral. Older brother put all 3 of the rooms on his CC but I still needed show/have a CC/debt card on file for any "incidentals" that might have occurred.
