We moved from the US to the UK, then back again 9 years later.
I can't help with advice for the actual moving logistics, as hubby was military, so they took care of that end (total fiasco on many facets, but irrelevant).
I can, however, offer lots of tips on adjusting to the differences in life in the UK & the US, if you like. Unlike the majority, we did not live in military housing, shop much on base, or rely on the other Americans for our social life. In other words, we actually lived in and were a part of the country we lived in, LOL.
