Default Ugh

The subject of my amusement today has used a computer at work for longer than I've been here. Please bear that in mind. Also, I'm sort of the first point of contact for IT issues within the sales area as I can sort out many items before they have to contact the IT team. I had two days off last week. It shows.

Rapscallion looks best placed to advise customer on this.
It’s a csv document, should be able to open it in most things.
Excel, open office, libre office etc.
Nothing wrong with the file, opens fine.

Hi Rapscallion,
They use Google Chrome .. XXXXX is trying in normal google. You might give them a call if you get a moment to check their progress.
*facepalm*

CSV files... ugh. Yeah, there's a huge list of things that handle them, and each and every one of those things handles them differently. Is the field delimiter really a comma, or is it a semicolon (or maybe a tab)? Does each field have to be quoted, do only fields with spaces (or commas, or semicolons) have to be quoted? Are quotes supported at all, and are fields that contain commas supported? Can a field be empty, or will the program blow up if there isn't at least a space in there?
