  • Communist Japan

IPF's thread in which he laments being called a communist made me decide to post this little tale from last weekend. I was going to mention it in a reply but realized it would turn into a hijack, therefore here we are.

    Me:

JB: JimBob. Don't know if that's his name but I don't care. JB gets a little racist and vitriolic, but don't blame him. He's a "Patriot". He told me so.

See, JB has convinced himself that nearly all of the USA has turned into communists because we've turned our backs on the Big 3. How is that? Well, the general populace doesn't buy the "well made solid cars" (his words) put out by the Big 3, instead unwisely choosing the "throwaway crap"(again, his words) coming out of the Asian markets. Right-o, JB. That must be it. As a country we've all started buying garbage in order to undermine the "American Worker"(also his words).

JB: It's bullshit and un-American!! These folks with their Hondas and Kias, built by gook labor are killing our country!! Pretty soon we wont be able to buy an American car!! Then what will they think? (he may be right, but for the wrong reasons)

Me: A lot of Asian and German brands are built in the US, with American workers. There will still be jobs, and I don't think the Big 3 are going to disappear.

JB: What are you, a communist? Why don't you go to Japan or Germany with the rest of the fucking communists? Prick!! <leaves>

Me: <to the closing door> Neither of those countries are communist.

Blind "patriotism" is never a good thing. Too many of these "working class heroes" as they like to call themselves assume that patriotism is hating anything and anyone from outside our borders. Thankfully this mindset is slowly dying but it's going to take a while.

So don't worry, IPF. I too am a communist.
I know nothing and I can prove it!

Lately I've realized that most people who throw about those words generally don't know what they mean. Communism, socialism, Marxism and fascism don't have distinct meanings and are completely interchangeable to such folks. Sorta like Arab, Muslim and terrorist. All the same.

Oh Dear. Does he know it's not 1938? What I find HIGH-larious is that Hitler had the same vitriolic hatred of communism.

I had heard teh Echo Chamber was spreading the idea that not-capitalist = communist, and I am starting to believe that's true

Does that mean we get to ship dissident SCs off to Siberia with nothing more than a shovel and the clothes on their backs, comrade?

Seems so, but citing Germany or Japan as not-capitalist is the height of irony.

Heck, you'd even be hard pressed to say that communist China isn't pretty darn capitalistic these days. Do people think they're sending all those goods to Wal-Mart and Target for free?

that guy need to learn about his "big three"

GM, owns Opel, which is german, they own Saab, which is swedish, and they also sell Daewoo (which is Korean), where they rip off the Daewoo badge and glue on a Chevy badge, his beloved "all american car company!" is "communist!" *gasp*

It's been my experience that when people start spouting off, 99.9% of them have no clue what they're talking about - they're just making noise to make themselves look important.

Bonus points for using big words incorrectly. I think these "genuises" must have swallowed a thesaurus for breakfast on the way out the door that morning b/c they didn't have enough fiber in their diet or some such.

                Yeah, they're VIP's all right . . .

There is a fine line between passionate patriotism and xenophobia... It appears JB has crossed it. A shame.

What's funny is that many "Import" cars are built in the US and many "American" cars are built outside the US. Seems like this guy has apparently missed that.

I still <3 American cars and wouldn't buy anything else except for Hyundai's which are built in Tennessee (not to mention have great value-for-money).

I used to get this alot when people were purchasing power tools. They only wanted the DeWalt's or Porter Cable's because they heard about Makita (Japan origin) and wanted "American-made" products. Last time I checked, the vast majority of power tools are only assembled in the US, they are actually made somewhere else.

Precisely the point I was trying to pound into his thick hillbilly skull. I didn't pound hard enough.

Just so you know: we have as big a car manufacturer crisis as you have(thanks to GM, who own Opel). So it's the americans fault a german manufacturer has to let people go and german goverment has to put money into the company(which will end up in the US no matter what they say). The all-german brands are doing okay-ish btw.

i would never buy a US-car by the way, any other country is okay, but with american cars it's just money down the sink.

Yorik? We've got a separate board for discussion of hot topics - www.fratching.com - which this thread is descending towards (not quite there yet). We prefer it if people tear lumps off each other there and keep things here civil. Politics, issues of religion, and race are main contenders, but this thread's one we're keeping an eye on.

                            In the meantime, welcome aboard!

Wonder if he was the same guy that did this.

One point that's not in the story above - the cars he vandalized were cars made in the USA.
