  • A Sad Day

It didn't start out bad. Mom & I took advantage of a mailer from a casino at the coast, we got an ocean-view room for $44, can't beat that. (Mom's retired, and I'm currently off work for some medical issues). She's been my rock through everything I've been going through, and it was good to get away & have some fun.

This morning during our pre-breakfast gambling, my cell phone rang, and it was the husband of my friend who has our horses. Since he was calling, I knew it was bad news.

Turns out my 34-year old Pinto-Saddlebred mare had colicked, and was shutting down. She was down in her stall, and just wanted to sleep. They weren't able to get her back up, and when the vet arrived, her internal organs were shutting down, and her heartbeat was real erratic. They made the humane choice to put her down. The thing that bites is I had planned on going up there to see her, and the other 3 horses, since I haven't been up there in all these medical issues started Labor Day weekend. I'm planning on going up tomorrow, but it will be to pay my respects to Tinker, not to give her hugs & carrots.

I'm so sorry. I know someone who lost a horse to that, she cried for hours. So sad.

That face pic is so cute! What a sweet face.

Definitely not rude, it's actually very true. Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes & nice comments. We buried her today, so most of the day was spent crying. Now the healing can begin. We did share some of the stories of her better years, and were even able to have a laugh or two.
