How to see your employment record

I was wondering if there is a way for someone to request their own employment record?

I have not got a single nibble on any of the applications I have been doing. Back when I filed for unemployment, someone called because they said there was a "discrepancy" with the reason I was fired. I explained the whole"taking care of my dad with his broken arm" and my unemployment went thru.

But I have been thinking, my ex-employer could not put that as the reason I was fired because of the federal Family Medical Leave act.

So, what did they put there? And could it be sabotaging my attempts at employment?
