Not really sure where this should be, but since I think its a general work rant, here is best?
I will rant about work......again
Schedule
Last year they cut hours (no surprise). So I guess in order to do that, the manager cut the hours off from the night shift. I.E. the shift I work.
Normally there should be 3 on at night. Me, and two cashiers. One who rings, and the other acts as backup, and helps out on the floor. (in an ideal world)
Well it was soon 2 people at night, for most of the night. Either I would be alone with 1 other person from 3-5:20, and or, 7-9
I remember asking the manager why she did this and she said we make more money during the day than at night. Sorta made sense. But then we have all these problems.
1) 2 people is not safe, any time of day, especially night.
2) its usually only the girls at night. almost never is there a guy working at night.
3) kids come in after they get out of school. you've read my stories about them
4) how the hell are we supposed to get work done
THEN, just a few days ago it hit me. We aren't more busy in the first shift. I come in and work 2-9. the store is open 7-9, so i come in smack in the middle. When i get in, i usually check how much we're at and its usually at or just below $3,000 (usually just under) By the end of the night on an average night we're at around $6,500, busy day we're at over $7000. tell me, how is it busier during the day? when clearly we are making more money in the 2-9 shift. thank you.
With summer approaching, it will get worse. All the kids will be out and everyone will be walking around the town there. She needs to either hire someone for the summer, and or, schedule 3 people on at all times. I cant keep doing all the work myself anymore.
Getting Work Done
I get that there are sometimes a lot of things to get done during the day. and those should get done during the day. The night shift should be : facing, vacuuming, put-backs, cleaning. makes sense, right?
So why is it that i come in and have to to all the planograms, a months worth of price changes for cosmetics ( i guess no one wants to do them, nor did they tell me this), push overstock, and anything else but face?
I cant tell you the last time the store got faced 100% at night. Really, I cant.
I gotta do everything it feels like, because the backup person is always ringing because its busy. and depending on who that person is, its either a) actual help or b) might as well have a monkey working.
D, she does NOTHING.
M, is good and wish she was on more
V, usually works on the backroom, never faces
^ DMV, didnt mean that,
anyways...
store looks like crap. shelves are totally messed up, in the summer aisle someone, whoever was merchandising, thought it would be good to leave about 8, 1-gallon jugs of Arizona on the floor in front of the shelves. yea, do you know how tacky that looks? but i didnt do it, im not cleaning it up.
i would say my store is one of the worst in the district. manager thinks its just fine probably
Truck / Overstock
Truck sucks, becuase, well...it just does
this i guess is more about overstock. and it really depends on the aisle.
I rarely get overstock for cosmetics truck.
But some other aisles seem to have some problems...
It comes from either, truck, or pushing overstock. I go to face an aisle and there is overstock crammed onto the shelf out on the floor. so much that it starts effing with the facings. random crap is cut in, stuff that isnt in the plano, and just after the plano is done.
Seriously...what is the point of me making the fresh new plano look good if someone is gonna eff it up less than 24 hours later?
I actually now take pictures after i do a plano to remind myself that at one point, that section looked good.
The overstock rooms are another disaster. the bigger overstock room is so messy, and so overflowing and so unorganized, i sometimes have trouble walking back there.
certain cw's will work hard at fixing that, only to have the manger do w/e she wants and totally mess it up again. she has 2 aisles she does for truck, and those 2 aisles are disasters. the food/ cleaning aisle has so much overstock shoved onto shelves, i cant face it. and then the candy aisle. the overstock goes back to the overstock room,in trays, and never gets scanned for push, so the system doesnt know its there. and almost never gets worked. seriously. wtf.
the smaller overstock room, is just as bad. its is chock full of trays. i have no clue whats in them. honestly it seems like they come out of nowhere. manager claims she and her friend cleaned it out a few weeks ago. funny, becuase you missed about...oh i dont know. 3 huge stacks of trays.
CW J is going to transfer out, hes not happy in the store, and can not stand or work with the manager. This sucks b/c hes like the best one there.
As much as the past few weeks seemingly get worse and more irritating, I dont really wanna leave the store. Transfers suck, and there isnt any other store i can think of, within the district, i'd wanna go to. i like my slower, smaller store. i LOVE getting out at 9, and not having a photo dept. i dont really enjoy the 20-25 min commute. We just need someone better in charge i guess. but its hard to get rid of bad managers, trust me. and its not just me feeling this, it seems everyone in the store has a problem, and most of it, is with the manager.
I cant go into work and actually tell the manage how i feel. i come in, shes all chippy to see me and asks how i am, i lie and say im alright. because if i say im upset/tired/pissed/etc... she tells me im not, or shouldnt be, or that shes doing worse.
because her problems always take precedent over ours.
honestly i dont know w..t..f.. she does all day. and whatever it is shes doing...it sucks
i deleted her off FB and made my profile private. i couldnt go home and say, "sucky night". or "i need a vacation" without her commenting on "how much worse" her day was, or that mine wasnt bad at all. screw that. mine was worse. id rather scan overstock for inventory all day than do what i had already done. thats easy crap.
Why dont you close a friday night, be alone with a cw from 3-520. help ring almost that whole time, because its so damn busy. push overstock, do all the price changes, set up a sign kit that no one else bothered to do, attempt to face but cant becuase you gotta go do cash, and the backup has to vacuum the store. the floor is covered in garbage becuase the customers are lazy slobs, and we couldnt do it the night before becuase it was only you and 1 person between 7-9, get hit by driving school, not face because theres no one to do it. you get one aisle faced but half of its overstock. and tell me youre doing ok.
