In a skate race... never throw your hands up in the air to show that you're the winner until actually crossing the finish line. It slows you down... and gives the guy right behind you an excellent chance to win.

From what I have read elsewhere, the kid was only 16. It was probably his first championship race, and he just got way too excited. I'm sure he definitely knows better now, though!

Really, that has to just be so embarrassing.
