Default Drunken water guy

Yeah, okay, I know the title sucks but it's much nicer than calling him the drunken douchewaffle from hell. Okay, maybe that just has a much nicer ring to it LOL

Anyhow, we have a dude who stops by regularly demanding a cup of water and he's none too nice about it. He barks his demand as he makes his way to the bathroom and doesn't give a shit if there's a line-up or not when he comes back - if his water isn't ready when he's finished in the bathroom he gets quite rude and belligerent.

Well, today he came in and he did his usual. He found out that I will NOT tolerate his behaviour.

He barked at me for not having his water ready and started getting rude with me in front of another customer. Not that Water Guy is a customer anyway, but y'know what I mean. I turned around and told him that I had told him I'd get his water when I was finished what I was doing and if he kept it up I'd kick him out and ban his arse. WG's jaw almost his the floor and he actually thanked me when I got him his water.

The other customer (the paying one) said afterwards that I have a lot more patience than he'd ever have and tipped me $3 on a $2 drink. Every little bit helps...especially seeing as how cooking at home right now just isn't happening, and sometimes a treat from Tim Horton's is very welcome

Did I read that correctly? He is not buying anything, just demanding water. Then I would tell him to F*** off. I would also put a lock on the restroom door and tell him that it is not a public restroom.

Trust me, I'm very seriously contemplating getting locks on the bathrooms. And instituting a very stringent anti-loitering rule to deal with not only him but the likes of AssHat's niece, and several others that tend to use this place as a base of operations (and either don't work here or aren't family of currently-employed staff).

My store has a rotten reputation, and I know it. My challenge is to clean that reputation up. Hopefully I don't lose my mind before then!

It sucks having to clean up someone else's mess, but you've made a very good start at it. And your upper management and employees seems to be happy with you, and willing to back you up (all of us at CS certainly are on your side as well, though we aren't there in person). Perhaps once you've gotten rid of the nogoodniks and freeloaders, you'll find the store's reputation climbing back up to a healthy level.

I wonder if Sucky manager was getting favors from him as well, for DWG to get water?

Eww.. some of the things we are finding out about AH and some of the things CS members have suggested are turning this into the bad kind of adult movie in my mind!

Someone pass the brain bleach!

we don't know where this story originated, but in ARIZONA, if you run any kind of business, and someone comes in wanting a glass of water, you must provide it free.

many companies have a refrigerator full of 1 liter bottles of water with their logo on the label.. good advertising.

Yes, you're right about the water begin free.

The problem I think wasn't that he wanted free water, but .... that he was a complete shithead in how he asked for it. Skipping the line, barking out the order on the way to the toilet, and then trying to skip the line again in a fit that his water wasn't ready for him yet.

Cos he still got his water... he just had to wait his turn.

Maybe now he'll develop some manners.

He came in today and was the image of propriety and manners. I think he realized I was serious about not letting him come in anymore if he's being a dickbag.

Don't know how long it will last, but I'll take it while it lasts
