This joke reminded me of one our Logic teacher used as an example for the Fallacy of Amphiboly, it has always tickled my fancy...I hope you enjoy it too.
It goes:
I was at book club the other day and we were discussing the Lord of the Rings
, when the topic of tea came up our host offered us some. One of the members said,
"What are we F---ing Hobbits?"
Now in the case of Amphiboly this text, a misplaced comma can make all the difference... observe.
"What are we, F---ing Hobbits?"
"What, are we F---ing Hobbits?"
"What are we F---ing, Hobbits?"
