  • Just barely qualifies as a 'tech help' question

Some time ago I bought a container of those 'screen cleaning wipes' from Staples for my monitor (desktop and iPad). I only used one or two and then forgot I'd had them. They've all gone dry. Can I still use them with (maybe) Windex?

    Thanks.

I've heard that you shouldn't use Windex on any sort of flat screen.

MM is probably correct. On an older/traditional screen, you can safely use Windex by spraying it onto the cloth itself (NEVER onto the actual screen -- it'll drip down and get into the circuitry), but flatscreens are different. I'd suggest just picking up a fresh pack of non-static wipes and tossing the ones you have.

When they were fresh, did the wipes have a medicinal (don't know how else to describe it) smell? If so, the liquid involved was probably isopropyl alcohol. Might want to add a bit of that to the package to re-moisten them.

They're labelled "alcohol-free" so I have no idea what it is that's moistening them.

I'll use the old ones for general housecleaning and buy some new ones for the computer.

          Thanks, all!

No Windex will eat away at the finish on the screens and eventually it will look as tho it is peeling
