It's too serious to be a brain burp. She wasn't really sucky. It was just hard to believe.
A lady who had to be at least 50 was asking a coworker about the bus. Coworker didn't know, and I normally would have no idea, but recently I've taken one route to work due to car issues. So I told her as far as I know, the main route across town leaves our area at 8:45 and that's it's last run, but I don't know for sure. It was now like 8:50; this lady had missed it and didn't know when the last departure was, nor did she know about any route other than the one I mentioned, which she took to the mall. She was saying, "So now I'm stranded? What do I do?" She mentioned something about the call-for-ride service the transit company has, and I told her I didn't know how late it went, or how to order it. I suggested she call the number on her bus pass. She didn't have her phone, so I offered her ours. She wanted me to call and ask for her. I just told her I couldn't because I might have a customer. I ended up having to dial it for her, as she seemed to agitated to do that, and for whatever reason it wouldn't go through. Oh, and she kept asking me what to do, since she figured her daughter would say, "I don't have gas money." I suspect her daughter is tired of dealing with this kind of thing. The service desk girl tried dialling the number up there and got it to go through, and the lady found out there was another route at 9:20. This was good, as she didn't have cab fare.
I am just perplexed as to how one can be almost old enough to be my mother and be so helpless. If I were going to the mall without my car, I'd have a ride arranged or the bus schedule memorized, or at least know when the last one left. I'd take my phone with me and have travel money available to me, especially at night. The mind boggles.
