I have a call at an elementary school. What better time to schedule a call than right at the beginning of school hours on a Monday? Oh, that's right, how about any time.
I was a little confused about the scope of work coming in, and the "office manager" was completely useless, I "had to wait for the principal", who was in a "meeting". Half an hour later, his 5 minute meeting finally ended. I finally get the privilege of speaking to Mr high and mighty. Now the picture is clearer and, while simple, it is currently impossible. They want a complete reconfigure of the furniture in the front office. Easy enough for me, but not only do they not have a single thing packed, they are still working at those desks.
A few calls to my office and they tell me to leave, I don't have time to wait around for them to get things prepared. I come back and tell them that the call will have to be re-scheduled. The desks have to be completely emptied and I can't have anyone working at them for the 2-4 hours that the work will take me. I should have just left things at that, but I was also quite concerned about the number of children that they allow to just wander around in the office, so I mention that it would probably be best to schedule things on an off day because I'm not comfortable with the safety of these children while I do the work.
I can tell that this guy is an arrogant douche by the way he speaks and carries himself, but other than that, he seemed to be nice enough here. He gives me a friendly sign off and even apologizes.
Okay, great, so now the only detail is who pays for this call today, but that's an office problem. Until of course, it becomes a me problem. You see, it wasn't the fact that the desks were fully packed and occupied, with people unwilling to vacate to allow me to do the work. No, that had nothing to do with it, I just didn't want to do the work because kids were around. And we should have know that kids would be around on a Monday morning, so we shouldn't have scheduled it for that time; it's our mistake, they don't want to pay.
Okay, obviously a mistake was made here on everybody's part. You were idiots for thinking that we were going to heave around 100 lb pieces of furniture while your workers carried on their daily routine and kids danced around our feet. And my office were idiots for not knowing that you were idiots, and not telling you that we don't have magic wands that just instantly transfer furniture around.
But you sir are a douchebag, a douchebag that I really feel like reporting. Oh, you saw nothing wrong with me doing this work while children are around? I was the only one who saw a problem with this? Okay, how about I ask that parent of the 2 year old who walked right into me if she thinks it's a good idea for me to be holding a 100 lb hutch while her daughter is walking there. You think that would go over well?
