  • My Mom is off the ventilator

They were FINALLY able to take her off it today.

She was transferred to a different hospital because she consented to an angiogram and angioplasty. But they didn't do those at the hospital she was at.

They found one major blockage and a few minor ones. But they couldn't get to it with angioplasty, so they're debating doing open heart surgery. Not sure what will happen with that as she's 80 years old with COPD. She might not be strong enough.

I haven't seen her today, but my sister went over there after work. Mom was very happy, and even talked a bit, though her voice is very hoarse and her throat is sore from the tube.

My sister was able to find my Mom's glasses and put them on her. I'll bet that's one of the things she was trying to get across to me while she was intubated: Where are my glasses? I can't even watch tv. Arrgh!!

I'm glad to hear it. Here's hoping she keeps getting better, hun.

The stupid is strong with this one.

I'm glad to hear it. I hope she doesn't need open-heart surgery but if she does I hope it will be a speedy recover.

          Great

And did nobody think to give her a notepad and pen? Last time I got stuck entubed my nurse and my resp therapist both handed me writing goodies to communicate with [though I can fingerspell in a pinch, I am just really slow at it.]
