  • I bought Legos for cheap, but I have problems with some

So I find this new store. There are 3 of them in my city, but 1 is 35 miles away from me, the other two are like 24 miles from me.

This new store has a chicken as a mascot. Misspelling it, it's "Dyrt Sheep". I think most of the items are salvage or just older models. There are a lot of Target and Wallyland furniture that you have to assemble. Items are 40-90% off. I've found a lot of Lego sets that are a year or more older. A lot of Lego Movie 2 sets. I found a lot of Harry Potter, Ninjago, Friends, and Star Wars sets, like Ahch To island, Elite Praetorian Guard set, Obi-Wan on the Death Star set. I found this place in March so I was going weekly before the quarantine (and I went recently on a sunday since my bf was practicing with his band). Now I've been getting sets for 40 to 60 % off. Sometimes I find the boxes open. I found the Architecture London set open, but looking at it I figured it was all there. It was 50% off, so I risked it and it did have everything.

I found the Harry Potter Hungarian Horntail set which was opened and taped but wasn't really closed. I decided to get it (50% off), and it was missing one piece and someone had stuffed the set from Star Wars Elite Praetorian Guard pack in it. I figured the night before or before opening when the staff just cleaned up and just stuffed things in boxes willy nilly. I found the Obi-Wan Death Star set that day. Recently I decided to open it off and when I first saw it I thought it was never opened. But I see it had been closed by clear box tape. There was an instruction book from another small Star Wars set. I look at the two packages inside and wonder why there are 2 pink legos when the set didn't have any pink. maybe it was a hidden piece. Sometimes you get a color that will be covered over by other bricks.

Nope. It wasn't even a Lego set it was a knock off set. The store doesn't do returns, since the merchandise there are salvage, so you are stuck with what you get.

So the short of it is I was happy to find a place I would find Legos for cheap, but then find open boxes, and Lego sets already assembled and finally bought a box that didn't appear open but had the wrong set in it. Damn.

I too am an AFoL (Adult Fan of Lego). It is a treat to find older sets, especially at reduced prices. One thing you can do when you get a set that is missing a piece of two is go to the Lego web site, click on the customer service link. They have a place where you can request missing pieces. But please don't abuse the privilege. You can use the same link to buy some pieces that are otherwise unavailable.

Have you ever been to a BrickFair convention?

No, never been to BricFair or any other conventions. Though one Comic book convention where there was displays of some mocs from fan clubs.

I figured I could order parts, but some sets I find are missing 1/2 the box. I probably can find pieces with the sets I have.

Recently someone on fb garage sale was selling 64 lbs for $400 but I am afraid of finding fake legos mixed in with real legos. The ideal thing is I look through but I know it would take a long time. And I'm easily bullied, so if I asked to have time to look through it I figure the seller would get mad saying i'm calling her a liar about the legos. At best I just get tired of looking through before buying if the seller didn't give me a problem.

About 20 years ago I heard the going price for bulk used Lego was $10 an pound. I don't know what it is now.

I have bought out several collections, and found a fair amount of non-Lego mixed in. One of our local club members was happy to take it. I still think I got a bargain with what remained.

On time I spent $400 on a large collection of Lego. Don't know the weight but it was 6 large plastic boxes. Sorted it out, and sorted out a lot of sets. I kept the ones I wanted and sold the rest to the local club members for about 3/4 of the going online price on BrickLink.com. They got wonderful bargains and I got $1200. A good return on the $400 initial cost.

At one charity shop I found an open box of Lego City that was open for $2.12. The box was small, it had a sail boat and a jeep to tow it. At least one bag in there was not open, there was parts missing, I found the price fine. At another charity shop they had 3 five gallon bags full of legos for $30. I think it had no fake legos, but it did have a lot of Friends figures. Also found another small box of Lego City that was open. It was one with a mine with a gold nugget and a vehicle. Of course the gold nugget is missing and other small parts, but there was a bag from another Lego set in it.

At another place I got a bag of Legos for $10. It was the size of a produce bag but 1/2 of it was fake Legos.

I mostly collect Star Wars sets. The only one I was dying to get was Kylo's Command Shuttle from The Force Awakens. I liked it but when the command shuttle came out for TRoS, it looked like the same theing except black, which I would have preferred but didn't see why I should fork out $129 for it. The Command Shuttle I have I got with my Winter time employee discount at the chain bookstore I worked at. The discount for that week was 40% then the regular 30%. No, I didn't think about buying more with my discount, that was the only thing I wanted. It's just recently I got into Legos like a mania.
