Girl has bad day, nice bus driver helps out

This is actually a roadkill sighting from the bus driver I mentioned in this thread.

He said he was driving up through Oregon, and was about 90 miles in when the car ahead of him suddenly flipped. He immediately pulled over, grabbed the fire extinguisher, and went to respond. It was a young woman driving the car. She was able to get out and was okay, but the car was a loss.

The bus driver learned that it was her dad's car. She was 100 miles from home. She was heading the same direction as the driver, though, so he gave her a lift.

Not too far down the road, they were pulled over. For some reason the state patrol hadn't caught it at the sight of the incident, but the girl's license was suspended as well. They gave her a $500 citation, and then sent her on her way. She told the bus driver she had no idea her license was suspended.

So yeah. Some gal had a really crappy day.

I told the bus driver it was really great of him to stop and help her out, though.

Just getting a ride back home probably took a big load off her shoulders.

bad day or not... DMVs don't just revoke licenses for shits & giggles. DMV.org lists what will get you suspended with each state. The most common reasons can be found here.

I knew a guy who got a DUI. He went to court and paid whatever fees and his lawyer said he was good to go. Later got pulled over for a suspended license after he'd been told he was OK to drive.

Depends. Some cities will have your license suspended for parking tickets or other citations, even non-vehicular ones. I think I heard something about public schools being able to have licenses suspended.

I've not heard about public schools having this right. I know many states include "failure to pay child support" on the list of what gets your license revoked. But again... unless there's a freaky bank issue, one usually knows when one is skipping out on paying that bill.

other than that, most things I've seen on the random lists i've looked at are automobile-related and of a nature that... it'd be pretty hard to not realize you've done. Such as fleeing the scene of an accident, driving without insurance (unless some freaky bank issue), stealing gas, stealing a car or car parts etc.

the only other one that one may miss could be missing court summons but that often ends in an arrest warrant, so the cops issuing the citation would likely have that one come up too when they ran her information.

It is possible to have your driving privileges suspended in one state while your license is still active in another, and not even know about it. For example, if I get a ticket in New York and don't either pay it or get it dismissed, they can't suspend my NJ license (seems there's no reciprocity between these two states, for some odd reason), but they can suspend my driving privilege in NY, and if they stop me there, I'd get done for a suspended license.

This actually happened to my brother once. He'd gotten a ticket in NY (moving violation, not a parking ticket) which he thought he'd paid, but they lost it or something. Eleven years later, he gets stopped again for something, and they found that on his record. He wound up being charged with driving on suspended privilege.

She's lucky. In Missouri they don't ticket you for that, they arrest you. I've had it happen twice... both times because of errors! GAH!

On the whole school thing, if you miss a certain amount of days (unexcused) or fail to be on time a lot, your license is suspended until you are at school for 30 consecutive days. At least where I live.

Then again, last I checked was '09. I never worried about it.
