On a global basis plastic bags aren’t an issue. It would be great if statements like these weren’t made.”
I might have missed it, but I didn't see anyone in-thread claiming bags killed animals. Probably mine was closest saying they're a nasty litter problem. Frankly, that link was probably better suited for Fratching.

What's interesting about that article on "bags aren't evil" is the statement that in Ireland they did something to reduce plastic bag usage, and that led to a 400% increase in sales of liner bins, so while you've reduced plastic bag usage, you haven't really reduced plastic usage.

Just one option for here in the states

I know that at least one of the stores that I go to gives me 10 cents off every trip for any bag . . .it doesn't have to be from their store. So I buy the ones from Central Market that are shapped like a classic brown bag with handles. After a few trips the bags are payed for and then it is more green in my pocket for green living.

(Central Market is the upscale ultimite hard to find items amazing produces, meats, beer by the bottle - food lover orgasim store by H.E.B. ) http://www.centralmarket.com/cm/index.jsp
