Uh...?!! Forget breaking the stick, the kid could've broken somebody's nose or worse brandishing it like that! Dumb granny.

I got whipped with the wooden spoon as a kid. And Dad's leather belt, which was at one time Grandpa's leather belt.

So if I moon you, those aren't butt dimples, they are old welts.

am i the only one here that actually did get spanked by the spoon!?!
        No. I was too.

I think I recall one of the wooden spoons getting broken in the midst of one of the several hearty spankings I received as a child.

This story gave me a flashback to one of the Harry Potter parties I hung around for at the bookstore. Imagine the store at full capacity (if not over) with half those people being little kids running around waving their wands. Yeah, we're lucky no one lost an eye.

My dad used to threaten us with the belt, but never actually used it. His other thing was to threaten to leave because we were bad. He would take a suitcase and walk out the door. Then stand on the porch for a little while where we couldn't see him.

Ok playing devils' advocate here but did Grannie actually see the kids waving the stick about or was she doing something else?

Completely agree to the fact the kid shouldn't be swinging objects about at the store.(God my Mum would have hit the roof if she'd seen me do that) Let alone at anyone, but; and I say this with regret
            - if she didn't see that particular brand of bad behaviour and you didn't comment on it, how is she suppose to know and discipline the kid for it.
Please excuse me , I need to wander round the corner to scream now, before my head explodes.

Two things -- discipline of children, particularly spanking, is one of those topics that can get heated, and belongs on Fratching, not here.

Second, I'm glad someone here realized that, but it would have been a lot more helpful if you had used the report button instead of commenting in the thread. If you report a post, we get notified right away. Otherwise, it may be awhile before we stumble across it and know to take action.

I can just imagine if a person did get hit by those sticks. Grandma would probably chatise the victim: why did you walk into my grandkids waving those sticks around? Can't you see what they were doing?

I don't remember acting up for my grandparents. For one thing, my mother (who would use a yardstick on us) would find out. For another, Grandpa would possibly kick my ass Grandma was no slouch either--it took a bit to get her provoked, but once riled up....you really didn't want to go there
