  • US States and what they remind you of...

    For a little artistic project I'm working on,I'm doing small pictures of each of the states with something to represent them.Some are easy-New York is lots of skyscrapers,Big Apple,Empire State Building,Statue of Liberty,Florida is Disney,Keys,Everglades,oranges
    Others are more work-Missouri?North Dakota?Iowa?
    So it'd be muchly appreciated if you could help by telling us what immediately springs to mind when you think of different states.Thanx

    Mississippi - magnolias (state flower)

    Louisiana - crawfish/seafood/gumbo/etc; a Mardi Gras mask; rice (LA produces a massive amount of it)

    Georgia - peaches, iced tea

    Nevada - gambling

    Idaho - potatoes

    Washington - rain

    California - surfers

      Massachusetts: Chowda and lots of it , MIT ('nerd herd')
      New Mexico: Atom bomb (well, one town in particular), hot-air balloons, chiles, Pueblo pottery

            Florida - Snowbirds, Orange trees
            Utah - Red Cliffs, dinosaurs
            South Carolina - Boiled Peanuts, Cotton
            Pennsylvania - Hills/mountains, US Civil War, Amish
            Ohio - Buckeyes, Walleye Fishing, Pot Holes, Orange Barrels, Cedar Point
            Indiana - Race cars
            Michigan - Great Lakes, cars.

                      Alaska, bald eagles, bears, mountains.

                      Arizona, the saguaro cactus.

                      New Mexico, desert.

                      Nevada, casinos, Area 51.

                      Oregon, Cannon Beach, hipsters.

                      Washington state (my home), Mt Rainier, Puget Sound.

                      California, surfers and traffic.

                      Texas, cowboys.

                      Oklahoma, tornadoes.

                      Minnesota, snow.

                      Maine, fishing?

                      Virginia/West Virginia, "these names are confusing."

                      So that's the end. You can tell I don't live on the East Coast due to my lack of insight on that side of the country.

                          I would've said corn and soybeans for WI, too. Fields and fields of 'em.

                          Hawaii: pineapples, sugar cane, hula and tahitian dancers, volcanoes
                          Idaho: potatoes
                          Vermont and New Hampshire: dairy products, flannel, snow
                          Maryland: shell fish (crab cakes), Chesapeake Bay
