Hi everybody, this is my first thread here, and is from a long time ago during my time at Mac & Don's supper club. Let me just start off by saying that I am not trying to make light of people with food allergies, or were trying to lower their salt intake at all.
The restaurant that I worked at is very close to the shopping center where I live and as a result would get very, very busy during the time leading up to any kind of Holiday. Now for those who may not know, there is a separate fry scoop that is only to be used for people who would ask for fries with out salt. All that needed to be done was put in a new basket, and when it was done you used the special scoop and basically just not let the fresh fries touch any salt.
Ok, enough background, now to the story...
It was the week after Thanksgiving, and we were just swamped. And swamped with people who didn't want to waste any time at all since all the "Big Sales" were taking place, and they needed to get back to the mall. I'm taking orders @ the front counter when 3 high school age kids get to the front of my line. They order their food with no problems then one of them says, " I need my fries with no salt". Again this is not a problem other than he'll now have to wait for a fresh batch of fries, so I walk over to tell the fry person about the request for no salt when I hear, "and that's how you get these morons to give you fresh food instead of the older stuff". Ok, now here's my problem with that statement, first just because I work fast food does not make me a moron, and second, fries only have a 7 min shelf life anyways, and we were so busy that nobody was getting "older stuff", but I didn't want to lose my job so I bit my tongue and waited for his fries.
Now i should say that my register was right beside the coffee pot where all the cream and sugar and things are kept. So I brought his "fresh fries" back to his tray, where he apparently had gotten his way so decided to let me know how he had outsmarted me by saying " now i just add salt and I've got fresh fries" and proceeded to grab a white sugar packet from the coffee maker (not realizing what it was I assume) and dump it all over his fries. Instantly his friends started to laugh and when he realized what he had done he looked at me, and I just smiled back!!
I was just waiting for him to ask for new fries, but he didn't and went and sat down.
It's the little victories that matter the most!
