  • Its Just Security, No Big

So I find out someone got fired Friday, but they didn't bother to tell us IT folk until today. This means that their account was fully accessible all weekend to a terminated employee. Fortunately, this person didn't feel the need to go full disgruntled, or else didn't know how to do a remote login on their account.

Considering that my company always escorts a terminated employee out with our security guy, you'd think they might mention it to the folks who deal with the electronic security.

    *Frumple*

And just how long has "disgruntled terminated employee" been in the corporate zeitgeist? Sheesh. It's right up there with "don't click email attachments".... in more ways than one.

Yep. I could see that happening where I work. They still haven't removed the names of people who left months ago, from the email and IM lists. You'd think that's the kind of thing that a company would do the same day a person leaves, not wait for months. I do know of one case where they changed passwords after the guy left that used to be our dept. IT tech coordinator.

After we have a keyholding employee (at least 2 per store are) leave the company, we have the store locks changed the same day, they are removed from email lists, and all of their login info is either deleted or reset (since some of the login numbers get recycled for new employees).

I even had one employee, who we were trying to let go for MANY reasons (including suspected fraudulent activities), turn around mid-shift and ask me, "Why isn't my login working anymore?" Two minutes later, my DM called and asked me to have her collect her personal items and escort her from the premises.

In other words, we don't mess around.

From my own work briefly with the account admins, I can definitely say that The Client doesn't waste time disabling account logins for terminated or departing users.

Sometimes the account's just getting disabled due to extended leave, or because their old contract expired and their new one doesn't start until X date. Whatever the reason, though, when the account admins see an account disable request in their queue, they check for the appropriate approvals, and if they're there, that account gets disabled.
