It feels like fall here. It was right on schedule, or actually a little early. I made an apple pie Wednesday, which impressed a cute boy.

Leaves are starting to change and my winter squash vines are starting to wither...harvest time soon. Two more weeks and I close down my garden (before the frosts) for the season. Mrs. TGK is planning out our Halloween decs for Elsie's favorite holiday. It was so cute last year: She sat among some plush pumpkins near the door and finally some kids asked, "Is that a real kitty?"

I was hoping to hit the Durham Faire tomorrow....but it looks to be a complete wash out.

I have obtained my first bag of pumpkin-flavored coffee today. All I need is eggnog-flavored creamer, but I have to wait longer for that.

Happy Mabon! It's technically Beltane here, being as the seasons are reversed but I'm currently enjoying a good harvest of tomatoes, silverbeet, peas, strawberries and zucchini! I love the subtropics

I am torn between a good crisply cool fall, the smell of wood fires and the crunchswoosh of walking through leaves, or the crisp cold dead silence of winter, with ice crystals encrusting the bare branches of bushes and trees with the scattering of evergreens as punctuation.

Woot! I love when it's cool enough for jeans and a comfy hoody. My favorite weather. Looking forward to the cold weather. And yes the snow too. ^_^ *happy dance*

I'm all screwed up this year, I'd gotten used to looking and seeing snowy mountains this time of year, and now I live in Nevada where it was 90 today. The trade off is that a local farm does hayrides, corn maze, u-pick pumpkins, pumpkin tree/tower, and lots of other stuff. I can't wait, I grew up doing that kind of stuff in Michigan.

Not much autumn in the air here yet...usually it just gets chilly at some point out of the blue in October or November I welcome the cooler temps as well, and I don't dislike autumn the way I did when I lived up north and loved summer so much. Happy Autumn to my northern hemisphere friends, and happy Spring to those further south

Beenthere, you reminded me of two poems I wrote a while back for a class...
well, actually one, but I might split it up anyway...

                              October falling:
the march of the flame, sinking down
as the wick shortens,as the leaves
                              flick themselves from branches
                              and crack softly, sputtering.
                              Grey-lit by the heavy-cast noon--
                              spread and lit from within,
                              not by flame,
                              neon, near,
                              nearly flame-- it's heart,
                              that is
                              orange but red,
                              some color in between;
each heart-shape covered by an eeire film.
The trunk a dead and faded grey-dirt,
                              warty and blistered
like the day, soot-washed, no sun.

                              January, will rise.
                              Velvet, purring, deepest azure--
                              alive--
                              like the sky is not.
It could be, is, but somewhere not here.
                              Overhead, it is not
as if the sky has been freshly peeled.
                              as if the sky is
                              lucent and sleek and beguiling
as the ring of thinning glass--
                              coldlit--

                              The sky's heart is hiding, not dwindling;
behind veils of dirty vapors and mists.
"Is it the lie that keeps you sane? Is this the lie that keeps you sane? What is it?Can it be?Ought it to exist?"
