Nice. Now you can bake them with cheese in the middle or with hot dogs inserted into them before cooking. Yummy.

      Those are pretty.

Boyfriend is lobbying for me to make pretzel hamburger and hot dog buns.

Why not? Make the hotdog buns in a curved shape like a banana instead of straight and you can fit good quality natural casing sausages in them for a killer Oktoberfest food with some good German mustard, sauerkraut and ale.

Good idea, except substitute lager for the ale.

Bit of a history lesson: Do you know why the British drink warm beer? Nope, it's not because Lucas makes refrigerators. Beer is generally served at roughly the same temperature at which it was fermented. Some yeasts prefer "working" at the top of the vat, and they like warmer temperatures. British beers are top-fermented. Other yeasts prefer "working" at the bottom of the vat, and they like cooler temperatures. These yeasts tend to get upset if their "office" is too warm, and do nasty things in protest.

Before the days of mechanical refrigeration, there was only one way to keep bottom-working yeast happy - don't brew beer if the weather is too warm. The Bavarians (this happened before the original German unification) thought this was such a good idea that they made it a law. The name "lager" comes from the German verb "to store" - it was beer that stayed good in storage, so people would have something to drink when the weather was too hot to brew beer. Still, a fresh beer was better than one that had been in the barrel for months, so there was a celebration when the first batch to be brewed after the weather had cooled down in the fall was ready to drink. This was the origin of Oktoberfest.
