Ironically, when they bite you, it doesn't usually draw blood. At least in my experience.

By the time a woman gets to the stage this woman was at; had given birth just a couple weeks ago, trouble breastfeeding, everyone and her brother seeing and discussing her stuff in the hospital, breasts becoming more general child care equipment than personal space, sleep deprivation, the unrelenting physical pain and anxiety of poorly progressing breastfeeding, overwhelmed with the overal upheaval of having a newborn in the house, this chick just didn't give a flying fk at a rolling doughnut anymore. Just whip out a nasty breast pad? Sure. Whatev. Feh.

Believe me, sister, I been there.

The whole problem with the US healthcare system (besides it being privatized) is that we're overly focused on treating symptoms, as opposed to curing diseases.

Common example: Type 2 diabetes? Expensive medical treatment, as opposed to trying to make you healthier through diet, exercise, etc.

Yeah, if you want real information about breast feeding you need to go to a midwife. If it's a good practice, they'll help you figure out your problems, not just tell you to switch to a bottle. All the midwives I know really push breastfeeding as it's much better for baby in the long run.

actually if she was in the states-all the doctor will tell her is "switch to bottles"(us med students get one day of (mis)information on breastfeeding-on information provided by the formula manufacturers-and usually close to a week on bottle feeding)-no matter what the issue is. I had a combination of thrush and a latch problem so it was quite painful-even after I explained to the doctor that my son was highly allergic to both soy and cow milk-his answer to a legitimate medical issue(thrush which when breastfeeding affects the mother's nipples as well as the baby)-was stop breastfeeding

I'm not an expert on this, but maybe it was just the hospital you were at? When my wife had our first child, and each subsequent child and she told the doc that she wanted to breast feed, he had a specialist come in and teach us what to do, the problems we might have and a number to call them if we had any trouble.

Lansinoh was a GODSEND when I breastfed all three of mine. That poor woman. I'm so glad that I my mother had breastfed all four of us, so I had a network of mothers to ask questions of. Gal needs to wash/airdry and keep Lansinoh on it after every feeding. Won't hurt the baby at all. Wish I could have been the one that she whipped it out to, I woulda fixed her right up.

(My whole first pregnancy, my mom would nag and nag me to "tweak" my nipples while I was in the shower, literally giving myself Purple Nurples, as it were. It worked, I never bled, only blistered).

Don't freak out, it's simply a learning thing. Get a good lactation consultant, which would probably be available through your hospital. Keep consulting her until you get it. Talk to other moms and get advice.

If you want, PM me. I leaned a lot while I was doing it, and I'd be happy to talk to you if you want to talk to someone who overcame some fairly serious obstacles to breastfeeding and ended up being able to do it with no problems.

Totally but it has to do with babies, and I just saw it tonight...

I was in Target and passed an endcap with cute little onesies, and one of them was pink and said "One day I will demand a pony."

Heh, that's a good one. I liked the one at Spencers that said "Don't Cuss Around the F*cking Baby" I almost bought it for my friend's lil'boy but her mother-in-law would have had a fit. Might still do it.

That poor woman. I remember when my aunt came to visit with her 4 month old. Her and my mom were telling their horror stories to me.

First off i'm going to hell cos i laughed - either that or god will get sweet revenge on me when i have kids.

second... without knowing any product names, i'd suggest some neosporin, maybe some ambusol ...yeah it's for teeth but if it numbs the inside of your mouth it'll numb that too. and maybe some bandaids or some kind of soft bandage.

third... just wait until the baby grows teeth.

You don't want to put anything like that on your nipple when you're breastfeeding. You dont' want your baby getting either thing in their mouth. Neosporin because, well, it's not something a baby needs to be eating, and the anbesol because while it might make you feel better, it will numb baby's mouth, preventing him from getting a good latch. And improper latch is what causes most of the breastfeeding problems. (not to mention it would probably make it so you couldn't tell if you had a decent latch or not.)

And in my experience at least, by the time they grow teeth, they've learned not to bite. Thank God.
